UI - Cactus Crusaders

About This Project
For more information about the game, see Cactus Crusaders.
In Cactus Crusaders, both players share the screen, so it was especially important to design the user interface as space-saving as possible.
Each player has both a life and water meter which are displayed at all times. The most significant element, however, is the upgrade menu, which appears when one or both players interact with an upgrade station at night. The most important requirement was that both players independently operate the upgrade menu at the same time without it taking up too much screen space. In addition, the UI should also be easy to see when playing Nintendo Switch in handheld mode.
Since upgrading is only possible at night, the menu is operated rather quickly. With the help of the control stick, an upgrade part is selected, which is either equipped by pressing x or y buttons, or upgraded with the R button. If an item is not yet unlocked, the R button is used to unlock it.
